Best AI Investing Apps in 2026 for Self‑Directed Investors

“AI investing app” covers four kinds of product: portfolio analyzers, AI stock ratings, chat assistants and robo-advisors. Our pick for investors who make their own decisions, what the others do, and prices as of October 2026.

Disclosure: Exent publishes this page and makes one of the products discussed. Facts about other products are checked on their own sites and dated. Our editorial policy explains how.

Key takeaways

  • Our pick for self-directed investors is Exent: an AI portfolio analyzer that checks the portfolio you already hold from a screenshot or file, ranks Wall Street analysts by past accuracy, and adds daily market context with cited sources.
  • Other AI apps do narrower jobs: Danelfin and WallStreetZen score single stocks, Magnifi and ChatGPT answer questions, and Betterment and Wealthfront manage money for 0.25% a year as of October 2026.
  • General chatbots explain well but their numbers need checking; in the 2023 FinanceBench test, GPT-4-Turbo with retrieval answered 81% of financial questions wrongly or refused them.
  • In Exent, quantitative models compute the numbers on market data and AI explains them. It gives analysis, not personal advice, and needs no brokerage login.

What kinds of AI investing apps are there?

There are four kinds, and they do different jobs. Most answer “what should I buy?” one stock at a time, or take the decisions away from you. A portfolio analyzer answers the question self-directed investors rarely get answered: does the portfolio I already own work?

How we chose: each app is sold to individuals, uses models or AI as a core part of the product, and publishes its pricing. We ranked them on what a self-directed investor needs: analysis of the whole portfolio, clear explanations, numbers from models rather than generated text, and no need to hand over account access.

Our pick: Exent

Exent ranks first because it covers more of the self-directed investor’s job in one app than any other entry here. You upload a screenshot of your holdings, or a CSV, Excel, PDF or Google Sheet, with no brokerage login. Quantitative models then run 16 checks in about a minute and AI explains each result:

  • Concentration and correlation clusters: which holdings move together.
  • Crash replays of your current weights through 2008, 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2025.
  • A benchmark matched to your risk, and the efficient frontier.
  • Analysts and insiders on your holdings, with analysts ranked by past accuracy in Stocks Radar.
  • Daily market context with cited sources in Market Intelligence.

A chat assistant, Ask Exent, is rolling out. Exent does not manage money or give personal buy or sell advice. The detailed ranking of portfolio tools is in best AI portfolio analyzers.

Other AI portfolio analysis apps

PortfolioPilotSoftware from a registered adviser; built around linked accountsFree; Gold from $20/mo billed yearly
ZiggmaPortfolio scores and testing a single tradeFree; $6.99–$13.99/mo billed yearly
MezziAI wealth app with tax and retirement advice plansFree; $33.25 or $83.25/mo billed yearly

The differences to check: whether you get analysis or regulated advice, and whether the app needs linked accounts. See Exent vs PortfolioPilot.

What do AI stock rating apps do?

They score single stocks with a model. Danelfin’s machine-learning model reads hundreds of indicators and scores stocks and ETFs from 1 to 10, with a free tier. WallStreetZen’s Zen Ratings grade 4,600+ stocks daily from A to F using 115 factors; Premium is $19.50 a month billed yearly per its plans page. Seeking Alpha’s Quant Ratings are part of its $299-a-year Premium.

A score is a model’s view of a stock in isolation. It says nothing about whether the stock suits your portfolio, and vendors’ own performance figures are often backtests. See Danelfin vs Zacks and can AI beat the market?

Can I just ask ChatGPT or an AI assistant about investing?

Yes for explanations, with care for numbers. General chatbots are good at explaining concepts and summarizing a company. But in the FinanceBench study (2023), GPT-4-Turbo with a retrieval system answered 81% of questions about company filings wrongly or refused them. Newer models may do better; any figure they give still needs checking.

Magnifi is a conversational investing app from Magnifi LLC, an SEC-registered investment adviser, where you link accounts and ask questions. It had a free plan and Premium at $99 a year as of October 2026. More in ChatGPT for investing, compared.

What do robo-advisors cost?

Betterment and Wealthfront both list 0.25% a year as a headline fee. Both build an ETF portfolio from a risk questionnaire and rebalance it automatically; the automation is mostly rules-based rather than AI in the chatbot sense. They make the decisions for you, so they are a different product from research and analysis apps.

Robo-advisorFee as of October 2026Notes
Wealthfront0.25% a yearAutomated Investing Account
Betterment Digital$5/mo on small balances; 0.25% a year with $200+ monthly deposits or $24K–$1MPremium (advisors) 0.65%, $100,000 minimum

Sources: Wealthfront pricing and Betterment pricing, checked October 2026. A percentage-of-assets fee grows with your balance. More in robo vs advisor vs DIY.

How to judge an AI investing app

  • Does it analyze the whole portfolio you hold, or only single stocks?
  • Do the numbers come from models on market data or from a language model generating text?
  • Does it need your brokerage login, or can it work from a screenshot or file?
  • Check the regulatory status of anything that calls itself advice.
  • Compare total cost, including percentage-of-assets fees, which grow with your balance.
  • Treat any performance claim as past or backtested, never as a promise.

  3. Stocks Radar ranks Wall Street analysts by past accuracy, and Market Intelligence adds daily market context with cited sources.
  4. A chat assistant, Ask Exent, is rolling out. Exent does not manage money, plan taxes or give personal buy or sell advice.

Frequently asked questions

For self-directed investors, our pick is Exent. It analyzes the portfolio you already hold from a screenshot or file, ranks Wall Street analysts by past accuracy, and adds daily market context with cited sources.

Reputable ones are, but check what you hand over. Robo-advisors hold your money as a regulated adviser and broker. Research and analysis apps never need to hold money, and some, such as Exent, need no brokerage login at all.

No app can promise that. Most professional fund managers trail their benchmark over long periods, and AI ratings are usually judged on backtests. AI is most useful for analysis and explanation.

It is good for explaining concepts and brainstorming, but its figures need checking. In the 2023 FinanceBench test, GPT-4-Turbo with retrieval answered 81% of financial filing questions wrongly or refused them.

Some do, through a registered investment adviser, such as PortfolioPilot and Magnifi. Research and analysis tools, including Exent, provide information and analysis, not personal advice.
